Mary Virginia Burnett [Cockerham], KHS 1935

Mary Burnett Cockerham, 96, of West Chester passed away on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester.

She was the widow of the late McKinley R. Cockerham who passed away in 1989.

She was the daughter of the late Charles B. Burnett and the late Ruth A. North Burnett. Mary was a graduate of Kennett High School class of 1935. She was a former employee of the West Chester Area School District, where she managed the cafeteria at Pierce Middle School for 23 years, retiring in 1984. Mary, along with her husband, owned and operated Cockerham Orchard and McKinley R. Cockerham Painting for many years.

Mary is survived by her son, Charles E. Cockerham and his companion Jamie Collette, both of West Chester; grandson, C. Kevin Cockerham of West Chester; step-granddaughter, Leah Graham of West Chester; brothers, Robert Burnett of West Grove and James Burnett of Lady Lake, Fla.; and friend, Carla Rock of West Chester. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Charles, Lane, Leroy; and Harold and sisters, Anna McDowell, Thelma Sutter, Josephine Hutchinson and Alice Chiffons.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Graveside Service, 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014 at Birmingham Lafayette Cemetery, 1235 S. Birmingham Road, West Chester. Please omit flowers and just plant a tree in her memory.
